A Private, 14 Days Grand Safari in Kenya

The Full Circle

14 Days · Nairobi · Samburu · Shaba · Ol Pejeta · Lake Baringo · Lake Bogoria · Lake Nakuru · Maasai Mara · Lake Naivasha · Amboseli · Tsavo · South Coast

Most safaris show you a part of Kenya. This one shows you all of it. Beginning in the dry, ancient north where species found nowhere else on earth move through semi-arid landscapes that feel untouched by time, it arcs south through the flamingo lakes of the Rift Valley, the conservancies protecting the continent’s most endangered animals, and the sweeping plains of the Maasai Mara before turning toward Kilimanjaro and the coast.

14 days. 9 destinations. A journey that traces Kenya’s wild heart from one end to the other, private and unhurried, each landscape different enough from the last to feel like a new country altogether. This is not a safari to tick off a list. This is the one you will measure every other journey against for the rest of your life.

Day to Day Itinerary

Detailed Safari

14 Days Grand Safari in Kenya Day 1

Day 1: Arrival in Nairobi
Nairobi

Your Wondrous Wild team meets you at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport and takes care of everything from arrival. A private transfer brings you to your Nairobi hotel, and the rest of the day is yours to settle in, rest, and let the anticipation of the fourteen days ahead quietly build.

14 Days Grand Safari in Kenya Day 2 3

Days 2 & 3: Into the Wild North
Samburu · Shaba National Reserve

The drive north from Nairobi moves through a landscape that grows drier, wider, and more ancient with every kilometre. By the time Samburu and Shaba appear on the horizon, the city is long behind you. These reserves occupy a different ecological world from the rest of Kenya, and their wildlife reflects that. The Samburu Special Five live here in their natural range: the reticulated giraffe with its geometric coat, the Grevy’s zebra with its narrow stripes, the Beisa oryx, the Somali ostrich, and the gerenuk standing on its hind legs to browse the acacia. Two days here barely feels like enough, and yet the memory of the northern light on the Ewaso Nyiro River at dusk is the kind that stays with people for years.

14 Days Grand Safari in Kenya Day 4 5

Days 4 & 5: The Conservancy and the Last of Their Kind
Ol Pejeta Conservancy · Sweetwaters Camp

Ol Pejeta is one of Africa’s most important conservation stories, and two days here gives you time to understand why. The conservancy protects the last two northern white rhinos on the planet, watched over around the clock by armed rangers in one of the most closely followed chapters in modern conservation. Beyond them, the Big Five roam freely across the reserve. Kenya’s only sanctuary for rescued chimpanzees, Sweetwaters, offers an encounter of a very different kind. Overnighting at Sweetwaters Camp puts you at the centre of it all, the conservancy quiet around you in the evenings, the weight of what you have witnessed settling in slowly.

14 Days Grand Safari in Kenya Day 6

Day 6: The Lakes of the Rift
Lake Baringo · Lake Bogoria

Descending into the Rift Valley always carries a sense of revelation. Lakes Baringo and Bogoria sit within this ancient fault line, each one distinctive in character. Baringo is a freshwater lake of exceptional birdlife, its shores and islands home to over 450 recorded species. Bogoria is alkaline, its shoreline edged with hot springs that send steam into the air above the water, and when the conditions are right, it draws flamingos in their tens of thousands. It is the kind of landscape that reminds you Kenya is not simply a wildlife destination but a place of rare geological drama.

14 Days Grand Safari in Kenya Day 7

Day 7: Lake Nakuru and the Rhino Sanctuary
Lake Nakuru National Park

Lake Nakuru National Park is a sanctuary enclosed within an electric fence, and everything within it is protected as a result. Black and white rhinos move through the yellow fever woodland with a freedom that speaks to what sustained conservation effort can achieve. Rothschild giraffes browse at the forest edge. The lake itself shifts colour with the waterbird population, and the game drive here has a different quality to the open reserves – intimate, concentrated, every sighting close and deliberate.

14 Days Grand Safari in Kenya Day 8 9

Days 8 & 9: The Maasai Mara
Maasai Mara National Reserve

The Mara needs no introduction, but it still delivers one regardless. Two full days of private game drives across these legendary plains give the journey time to breathe. Lions rest in the shade of acacia trees. Cheetahs scan the open grassland from termite mounds. Leopards move through the riverine forest along the Mara River, where hippos and crocodiles hold their own territories in the water below. When the Great Migration is in season, wildebeest fill the plains from horizon to horizon. When it is not, the resident wildlife is more than enough to hold the attention of the most seasoned traveller.

14 Days Grand Safari in Kenya Day 10

Day 10: The Freshwater Lake
Lake Naivasha

A gentler day after the intensity of the Mara, and a welcome one. Lake Naivasha is a freshwater lake fringed with papyrus and yellow fever trees, the air around it alive with kingfishers, herons, and fish eagles. Hippos surface and submerge in the shallows with casual indifference. A boat ride on the lake puts you among them at close range, the surrounding landscape reflected in the water around you. It is one of Kenya’s quieter pleasures, and it lands differently after the drama of what has come before.

14 Days Grand Safari in Kenya Day 11 12

Days 11 & 12: Amboseli and the Mountain
Amboseli National Park

Amboseli is the park that gave the world its most iconic image of Africa: elephants crossing a dry lakebed with the snow-covered summit of Mount Kilimanjaro rising behind them. The reality matches the image. The elephant herds here are among the largest and most studied anywhere on the continent, and two days of private game drives give you time to watch them at length, in their own rhythms, the mountain coming in and out of view as the clouds shift overhead. Buffalo, giraffe, zebra, and an astonishing variety of birdlife complete a landscape that rewards those who take the time to look carefully.

14 Days Grand Safari in Kenya Day 13

Day 13: Tsavo and the Waterhole
Tsavo National Park · Kilaguni Lodge

Tsavo is Kenya’s largest national park, raw and vast in a way that even the Mara cannot quite replicate. The afternoon game drive here moves through landscape coloured red by volcanic soil, home to lion, elephant, buffalo, and the famous red elephants whose coats carry the dust of the terrain. Kilaguni Lodge, the oldest game lodge in Kenya, overlooks a waterhole fed by a natural spring. As the light fades and the animals come to drink in the evening quiet, it is one of those safari moments that arrives without warning and lingers for a very long time.

14 Days Grand Safari in Kenya Day 14

Day 14: The Coast
Tsavo · South Coast

The final chapter of the journey unfolds at the coast, where the Indian Ocean receives you after thirteen days of wilderness. The transfer from Tsavo to Kenya’s South Coast is itself a passage from one world to another, the dry thornbush giving way to palm trees, white sand, and warm saltwater. Whether this marks the end of the journey or the beginning of a beach extension, the coast provides a close that feels completely, perfectly earned.
