Where the Journey Becomes the Purpose

Mission Travel Across East Africa – David Mission Tours

Most people who travel to East Africa come for the wildlife. They leave with something they did not expect – a continent that gets under the skin, a landscape that reframes the ordinary, a sense of the world made larger and more complex than it seemed before. David Mission Tours was founded on the belief that travel can go further than that. That a journey to Kenya can do more than witness. That it can contribute, build, serve, and leave something behind that matters long after the flight home.

David Mission Tours is the humanitarian travel arm of Wondrous Wild, East Africa’s luxury safari operator with 28 years of on-the-ground expertise across Kenya, Tanzania, and Rwanda. Where Wondrous Wild opens the continent to those seeking adventure and wonder, David Mission Tours opens it to those who feel called to something more – church groups and faith communities, corporate teams with a conscience, individual volunteers, and donors who want to see firsthand where their contribution lands and what it changes.

Beyond the Game Drive

David Mission Tours

We believe a mission trip should be more than a programme and a flight. It should be a transformation — one woven from servant hearts, breathtaking landscapes, and the living spirit of East Africa. David Mission Tours pairs purposeful community engagement with the wonder of the African wilderness, so every team returns not just having served, but having been changed.

Faith, Purpose & the Wild African Soul

Mission Travel Across East Africa – David Mission Tours

What David Mission Tours brings to this work is the infrastructure, the relationships, and the 28 years of Kenyan expertise that Wondrous Wild has built. The ground team, the local partnerships, the logistics that make a mission trip run smoothly in a country that rewards preparation – all of it is in place, so that the team that arrives can focus entirely on the reason they came.

The work is real and it is varied. Classroom construction in communities where children learn in buildings held together by little more than hope. Borehole and water access projects in regions where clean water is still not guaranteed. Agricultural and livelihood programmes supporting women building small businesses against considerable odds. Children’s centres where the presence of a team for three days can shift the atmosphere of a place entirely. Every mission journey is shaped around the specific needs of the partner organisation on the ground, which means no two trips are ever alike.

And because Kenya insists on giving more than you expect, every mission journey we design includes space for the country itself – a game drive across the Maasai Mara, a cultural exchange with a Maasai community, a morning where the only agenda is the open savannah and the wildlife that moves through it. Purpose and wonder, it turns out, travel very well together.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who are David Mission Tours trips designed for?

David Mission Tours journeys are designed for anyone who believes that travel can be a genuine force for good – church groups and faith communities, corporate teams looking to embed meaningful social impact into their team travel, individual volunteers who want to contribute something real, and donors who want to see firsthand where their support lands and what it changes.

Our trips are welcoming to travellers of all backgrounds and beliefs. What unites everyone who travels with us is a desire to give something of themselves to the communities they visit, and to leave with a deeper understanding of the country and the people they came to serve.

What kind of community work does David Mission Tours support?

The nature of the work depends on the partner organisation and the current priorities on the ground in each community. Projects we have supported include school and classroom construction, borehole and water access infrastructure, agricultural and livelihood training programmes, children’s educational activities and mentorship, and women’s enterprise support initiatives.

Every David Mission Tours journey is built around a specific partner organisation whose work is established, credible, and making a measurable difference. We do not place volunteers into generic community projects – we connect teams with real work that real communities have asked for help with.

Do I need professional skills to join a mission trip?

No specialist skills are required for most of our mission journeys. The most valuable thing a volunteer brings is their time, their presence, and their genuine willingness to engage with the community they are visiting. That said, if your group includes professionals with specific skills – medical, construction, education, or agricultural expertise – we will work with our partner organisations to ensure those skills are applied meaningfully during the trip.

Let our team know the composition of your group at the planning stage and we will shape the itinerary accordingly.

How does the safari extension fit into a mission trip?

Every David Mission Tours itinerary includes time in one of Kenya’s iconic wildlife destinations – most commonly the Maasai Mara – as a natural extension of the community work. This is not simply a bonus experience bolted onto the end of the trip. It is a deliberate part of the journey’s design, giving the team time to decompress, process what they have witnessed, and experience the extraordinary natural heritage of the country they came to serve.

Kenya has always offered more than one kind of encounter, and a mission trip that ends in the Mara tends to leave its participants with a fuller, richer understanding of what this country holds.
