A Kenya Mission Journey – David Mission Tours in Partnership with Wondrous Wild

Kenya Hope Center Mission Trip Itinerary
Where Purpose Meets the Plains

Some journeys are measured in miles. This one is measured in something harder to quantify – in the faces of children who were seen, in the women whose stories were heard, in the quiet moments of connection that happen when you cross the world not as a tourist but as someone who came to give something of themselves.

David Mission Tours is the humanitarian arm of Wondrous Wild, founded by the same director who has spent 28 years opening East Africa to the world. Where Wondrous Wild crafts journeys of discovery and wonder, David Mission Tours creates journeys of purpose – trips that place volunteers, church groups, faith communities, and corporate donors inside the kind of meaningful, on-the-ground work that changes both the people being served and the people doing the serving.

This nine-day Kenya journey begins in Migori, in western Kenya, where the Children’s Hope Center has been building a future for some of the country’s most vulnerable young people. Three days of activities, engagement, and community visits follow – including time with local widowed women running small businesses against considerable odds.

And then, because Kenya insists on giving more than you expect, the journey continues to the Maasai Mara for two days on the open savannah, a reminder that purpose and wonder are not mutually exclusive, and that the country which asked something of you also has extraordinary beauty to offer in return.

Day to Day Itinerary

Detailed Safari

Kenya Hope Center Mission Trip Itinerary Day 1

Day 1: Arrival in Nairobi
Nairobi

Your team arrives at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport and is met by the David Mission Tours ground team, who handle transfers and check-in to your Nairobi accommodation. The evening brings the group together for a welcome orientation dinner with your local host and ministry partner – a chance to settle in, meet the people who will be walking alongside you all week, and hear what the days ahead hold. The work begins tomorrow, but tonight belongs to preparation and presence.

Day 2: Into Western Kenya
Nairobi – Migori

After breakfast, the team departs Nairobi for Migori in western Kenya, a drive of around six to seven hours that crosses some of the country’s most varied terrain. The journey is long but purposeful, the destination coming slowly into focus as the landscape shifts and the city falls further behind. On arrival, the team settles into accommodation and meets the local partners who have been preparing for this visit. The week’s plans are reviewed, roles are confirmed, and the Children’s Hope Center – the heart of the next three days – is introduced in full.

Day 3: The Children’s Hope Center, Day One
Migori

The first morning at the Children’s Hope Center arrives with a particular energy. The children have been waiting. The team leads activities and games through the day, the kind of structured, joyful engagement that requires nothing more than time, attention, and genuine presence. An educational session follows in the afternoon. By the evening team debrief, the conversations tend to carry more weight than anyone anticipated. Day one of mission work has a way of recalibrating everything.

Day 4: The Children’s Hope Center, Day Two
Migori

A second day at the Center deepens what the first day began. Continued activities and educational sessions with the children run through the morning, and the afternoon opens up a different dimension of the community visit – time spent with local widowed women who are building small businesses in circumstances that would challenge most people considerably. Their stories are told without complaint and received with the kind of respect they deserve. It is an afternoon that reminds the team why they came.

Day 5: The Children’s Hope Center, Day Three
Migori

The final day at the Center carries the bittersweet quality that closing days always do. Activities and sessions with the children run one last time, the relationships formed over three days now real enough to make the goodbyes meaningful. A closing time of prayer, encouragement, and reflection brings the Migori chapter to a close with the kind of intention it deserves. The evening team reflection gives everyone space to process what the week in this community has meant before the journey continues.

Day 6: From Migori to the Mara
Migori – Maasai Mara

The drive from Migori to the Maasai Mara takes three to four hours, the landscape shifting dramatically as western Kenya gives way to the open savannah of the Mara region. It is a transition that carries its own quiet significance – from community to wilderness, from service to stillness. The camp receives the team gently, and the evening is given entirely to rest and orientation. Tomorrow, the Mara begins to offer what only it can.

Day 7: The Maasai Mara
Maasai Mara National Reserve

A full day on the open plains of one of the world’s great wildlife reserves. Morning and afternoon game drives move through terrain where lion, elephant, leopard, buffalo, and cheetah go about their lives with an indifference to the vehicle that never quite loses its power to hold attention completely. The team dinner that evening carries a different quality to the ones in Migori – quieter, more reflective, the two halves of the journey sitting alongside each other in a way that feels entirely right.

Day 8: Back to Nairobi
Maasai Mara – Nairobi

The drive back to Nairobi takes five to six hours, with the option of a short domestic flight for those whose schedule requires it. The city receives the team in the afternoon, and the evening is left open for last-minute visits to the Maasai Market or simply rest before the final day. A farewell dinner with Nairobi-based partners closes the evening with gratitude and the particular warmth of people who have worked toward something together.
